Every month we put one of our partners and his or her organisation ‘in the spotlight’. This month it is Romain Spauwen, managing director of Spauwen Travel Group.
1. Why did you choose the position you have now?
Spauwen Travel Group, which includes Jacobs Travel, has been our family business for over 50 years. I am the third generation business owner and have been working within the company for over 12 years. Born and bred an entrepreneur!
2. What are the most recent developments within your company?
We try to keep on top of the latest innovations within the transport and travel sector. This year we will be investing in faster mobile solutions to optimise transport of travel reservations. We also invest yearly into our fleet of vehicles as well as in our network of European transport partners.
3. Which challenges are you facing in your organisation or in this region?
Accessibility of the region is a big challenge. We are the transportation specialists and it is therefore our challenge to show visitors of the region that it has a lot of advantages because of it’s unique location, surrounded by many international airports and train stations.
4. What have you achieved, of which you are most proud?
Our company has grown significantly in the past two years. WE went from 40 to 100 colleagues and we have increased the revenue within the business group with 70%. I am very proud of our team of hard working employees that are there for the business and our customers 24/7.
5. What do you do when you are not working?
As a true “Limburgse Bourgondiër” I enjoy spending time with my family and have a good meal with them. We also love to travel to different cities or enjoy a summer holiday on a sunny beach somewhere.
6. What does the Maastricht Convention Bureau mean to you?
Maastricht Convention Bureau offers us a platform to connect to congress specialists, but more importantly: it offers us a network of regional businesses that are all important part of the same process – to offer a unieke and satisfactory visit and experience to the (business) visitors of our region.
