Each month, we aim our spotlight at one of our regional partners. What are the developments within their company? What are the challenges? You will not only get to know the person, but also their company. This month’s In the spotlight guest is Etienne Souren, owner/managing director of Houben Souren B.V.
1. Why did you choose the position you have now?
Ever since I was a young boy, music and professional lighting and sound equipment were my greatest hobby. After finishing my electronics degree I worked for an international company that specializes in mechanical engineering. Several years later I managed to make my hobby into my career and started as a Rental Manager at Houben in Roermond. I am an entrepreneur and when I got the chance to take over Houben Mediaverhuur in 2013, I jumped at the opportunity.
2. What are the most recent developments within your company?
At the moment we are working hard to expand our activities at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus, where we started a new subsidiary in 2016.
Besides that, as preferred supplier at MECC Maastricht (since 2003), we are advising on the new audiovisual facilities during the remodelling project that is about to start.
3. Which challenges are you facing?
We have a fabulous team of employees, however we still have some difficulties finding the right people at times when expansion is needed. We have been working on new, innovative and creative solutions to get the right people for the job and to create long lasting bonds with our organisation.
4. What have you achieved, of which you are most proud?
I am very proud of the way I was able to continue Pierre Houben’s original company. We have seen a healthy growth, long term relationships and satisfied customers. Voorsprong in Beeld, Geluid en Licht (Leading in Image, Sound and Light) is a promise that we do not take lightly. Our customers can count on that and hold me personally responsible for it.
5. What do you do when you are not working?
I spend time with Gwennie and my two little best friends Tren (6) and Ziba (8). Occasionally I still do what started it all: DJ at a party.
6. What does the Maastricht Convention Bureau mean to you?
Apart from all the business, direct or indirect, that MCB generates, it is a networking club that allows us to meet very interesting people.
