About the Brightlands Rolduc Polymer Conference
Brightlands Rolduc Polymer Conferences are a series of conferences in the field of polymer science and technology. They create a platform for academic polymer scientists and industrial researchers working on polymeric materials. At the conference, they can meet and link the societal and industrial materials needs of tomorrow with the fundamental and scientific knowledge in the field of polymers.
The conferences are held in Rolduc Abbey, in the south of the Netherlands close to Maastricht. The Abbey buildings give the conferences an intimate atmosphere, with plenty of time for inspiring conversations.
Brightlands Rolduc Polymer Conferences relates the scientific contributions to future applications. During the 2019 edition, we focus on “Innovative Polymer Solutions for Future Health”. Polymers are increasingly used in highly demanding biomedical applications, such as body compatible scaffolds for tissue engineering or in drug delivery. In addition, packaging of drugs requires high safety standards and barrier properties depending on special polymeric materials.
Brightlands Rolduc Polymer Conferences are international conferences with a long tradition. The first Rolduc Polymer Conference was held in 1985 and many editions have since followed. In 2017, the conference was revived in collaboration with Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen. The conference theme for the 2017 edition was “Innovative Polymer Solutions for Future Mobility”
Innovative Polymer Materials for Future Health
The second edition of the Brightlands Rolduc Conference will highlight both academic and industrial developments in polymer science and technology for human health. During this three-day conference, the progress made in the fields of polymer synthesis, physics, processing, and applications will be discussed.
Topics for focus sessions include;
- Polymers for personal care, devices, hygiene and packaging
- Biobased and biodegradable polymers
- Polymers for drug delivery and diagnostics
The conference will take place on 9th till 11th of September 2019 in Rolduc Abbey
Creating a unique connection between the academic and industrial worlds
One of the keynote speakers at this year’s event is the American professor Robert Grubbs, 2005 winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. “This really says something,” confirms Marnix van Gurp, managing director of the Materials Center at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen and chairman of the conference’s organizing committee. Spread out over two conference days, another ten researchers and other business leaders will take the stage, including Dutch and Western European universities and major companies such as DSM, Sabic, Evonik and Johnson & Johnson. But the conference is about more than just the speakers, of course. The primary goal for the Brightlands Rolduc Polymer Conference is to create a connection between the academic and industrial worlds. This is quite unique since most conferences are either focused on academics or business. The conference brings these two worlds together in the exact same way Brightlands does this at the four Brightlands campuses.
