Maastricht, 23 January 2025 – As of January 2025, the Maastricht Convention Bureau (MCB) proudly welcomes Van Oys Maastricht Retreat as a new partner within its extensive network of over sixty members. This luxurious hotel and event venue, situated in the historic Castle Oost in Eijsden-Margraten, will officially open its doors just before the start of TEFAF Maastricht in early March 2025.
With the addition of Van Oys Maastricht Retreat, MCB enhances its offerings for organizers of scientific congresses from both Europe and the United States. Jurgen Moors, Managing Director of MCB, commented: “The demand for high-quality, unique venues is growing in the congress market. Van Oys provides a remarkable blend of historic grandeur, luxury facilities, and a convenient location close to MECC Maastricht.”

A premier venue with historic charm and refined gastronomy
Van Oys Maastricht Retreat, located in the picturesque Eijsden-Margraten near Maastricht, combines history with luxury. The castle and estate, dating back to the early 13th century, have been meticulously transformed over the past few years by Maastricht-based entrepreneurs Michel and Leon Maes. The result is a five-star superior hotel, which has already been accepted into the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World network ahead of its official opening.
The venue offers 81 rooms and suites, as well as 8 multifunctional spaces for meetings and events, accommodating up to 350 guests. Among its highlights are the ‘Atelier du Terroir’ cooking studio and the ‘Atelier du Vin’ wine cellar. Additionally, the retreat boasts two exceptional restaurants: Create, led by two-Michelin-star chef Guido Braeken, and Maes, Cuisine du Terroir, led by renowned chef Pascal Jalhay.

Strengthening international position as congress destination
Under the leadership of Marc Alofs, an experienced hospitality professional, Van Oys Maastricht Retreat aims to attract the international business market. Alofs stated: “Our membership with Leading Hotels of the World grants us direct access to a robust network in the United States, a market where the Maastricht Convention Bureau is also active. Together, we can further strengthen Maastricht’s position as a prime congress destination.”
Business tourism at the highest level
By welcoming Van Oys Maastricht Retreat to its partner network, the Maastricht Convention Bureau provides congress organizers with an exclusive destination for high-level events. With its rich history, refined gastronomy, and luxurious facilities, Van Oys adds a new dimension to business tourism in Limburg.
