The Bonnefantenmuseum is a museum of old masters and modern and contemporary art. The building, designed by the famous Italian architect Aldo Rossi, is a splendid addition to the skyline of Maastricht and situated within walking distance of the historic centre and the MECC. Featuring the famous impressive Treppen - StraBe and its undisputed highlight is the cupola: the distinctive tower on the banks of the Maas.

Rossi regarded the museum as a 'viewing factory', and the exhibition Augenspiel is all about viewing. In this extremely daring presentation, highlights from the old, modern and contemporary art collection are arranged side by side. Visitors are invited to look with new eyes! The museum is well known for its renowned exhibition scheme as well as major events such as the TEFAF Afterparty and the BACA prize awarded biannual to a major artist.
