Mise en Place and HTC are satisfied when looking back on the 2010 World Soccer Championship in South Africa

From the 11th of June until the 11th of July the world’s greatest sporting event, the 2010 World Soccer Championship, took place in South Africa. Human Talent Consultancy (HTC), a part of the Mise en Place Group, already did a test run during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa. For the 2010 World Soccer Championship, HTC recruited and trained thousands of young South Africans to work in the various stadium facilities including skyboxes, VIP lounges and restaurants.

Part of the personnel

Thousands of people working each match
The enormous amount of personnel that was needed for the World Soccer Championship was a big challenge for HTC. During the first match at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, when, in group A, host country South Africa had to kick off against Mexico, the improvisational abilities of HTC were already tested. Outside the stadium, a small army of proud South Africans were eager to start working. They were not able to check in though, as the internet connection was offline. HTC faced this challenge on the spot, and the activities that were carried out during the match went on smoothly. This also applies to the remaining matches in the group phase and the subsequent knock-out phase. The final match, which took place at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on the 11th of July, went by smoothly with 1.600 employees at work.

Significantly exceeded expectations
When South Africa was awarded the honor of hosting the World Soccer Championship, many people were skeptic. They were wondering whether South Africa, as first African country, would be able to organize an event of this magnitude. The naturally hospitable nature and kindness of the South African people, combined with the four day crash course of HTC, ensured that the goal ‘to exceed the expectations of our guests’ was reached. From the reactions of many guests, the conclusion can be drawn that their expectations were indeed exceeded.

Mise en Place and HTC state that they are very proud to be able to be part of such an unique event and challenging project. When it was time to say goodbye, the emotional attachment and the heart that the South Africans showed for their work activities became very clear.
